A. You have read about Nick, who was born without arms and legs.

Though his parents were shocked at first, they decided to raise him to be independent. Write a conversation (10–12 exchanges) between Nick’s father and mother expressing their fear, pain, and determination to support their son.

You may include:

• their shock and emotional pain
• the mother’s guilt
• the father’s positive attitude
• their decision to make Nick independent
• their plans to teach him skills like swimming and typing
• their hope for his future

Mother: I am shocked and deeply hurt. Why was our baby born without arms and legs?

Father: I know it is very painful for us, but we must be strong for our son.

Mother: I feel guilty. I keep thinking that I did something wrong.

Father: Please do not blame yourself. It is not your fault.

Mother: How will Nick live without arms and legs? I am very worried about his future.

Father: We will love him and support him. We must teach him to live independently.

Mother: Yes, we should not make him depend on others for everything.

Father: We can teach him many skills. He can learn typing and other daily activities.

Mother: We should also encourage him to learn swimming and other useful skills.

Father: Certainly. We will give him confidence and never treat him as helpless.

Mother: I hope Nick will grow up to be a happy and successful person.

Father: I believe he can achieve great things. We will always stand by him and help him become independent.
